The
skins have to be put through a series of treatments using particular
substances that once adhered are irreversible, thus guaranteeing the
conservation without alternating the softness and flexibility of the skin.
This operation is called Tanning (as well as the
use of special machinery) most of the work is done manually, because
without the sensitivity of human intervention during the phases of heat
graduation, humidity, tension, and tint, one wouldn't be able to achieve
such a total transformation from a nonentity to something that astonishes,
because during the various phases that start from the unprocesssed skin (insignificant
to whom isn't competent in the matter), to the extraordinary brilliant
shine when the skin is ready to be manufactured, there is an unbelievable
difference.
Tanning
represents the first stage in the preparation of the skin, a treatment
that must adhere to certain regulations prohibiting the use of azoic dyes
and other poisonous substances.
The tanneries that supply us with the reptile skins (that form the upper
part of the belt), as well as the bovine skins ( that form the inner part
of the belt), guarantee with a declaration that the materials conform to
current Italian law.
